Edmonton Oilers 5, Los Angeles Kings 0
BOXSCORE

EDMONTON, Alberta - Tommy Salo stopped 21 shots for his fifth shutout of the season and Doug Weight scored two goals as the Edmonton Oilers cruised 5-0 Tuesday night over the Los Angeles Kings.

Rem Murray's first-period goal opened the scoring and he added an assist. Janne Niinimaa and Tom Ponti also scored. Sergei Zholtok had two assists.

Los Angeles dropped six points behind the Oilers, who are in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Goaltender Felix Potvin started his first game for the Kings since being acquired from Vancouver on Feb. 15. He faced 27 shots.

Edmonton got three goals in the second period in a span of less than six minutes to put the game away.

Niinimaa and Poti gave the Oilers a three-goal lead and Weight made it 4-0 with his 16th on a slap shot high to Potvin's glove side. Zholtok kept the puck alive and slid it across to Weight, who was the extra skater for the Oilers on a delayed penalty call.

Edmonton finished a three-game homestand 1-2-0-1. The Kings have lost five of their last six.

Kings captain Rob Blake, who has been a subject of trade rumors, did not make the trip to Edmonton. He was said to be taking care of personal business.
