Los Angeles Kings 2, Nashville Predators 1
BOXSCORE

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Felix Potvin made 20 saves and Ziggy Palffy scored a shorthanded goal with 4:08 left to give the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators.

Los Angeles was killing a penalty when Palffy took the puck from Patric Kjellberg at center ice and skated straight through the slot, where he flipped a wrist shot between goaltender Mike Dunham's pads for his 29th goal. Potvin had to stop just four shots in each of the first two periods before turning away 12 of 13 in the third. His bid for a third shutout was spoiled by Cliff Ronning with 7:51 left in the third.

Potvin turned away a shot by Kjellberg, but Greg Johnson fought off a check in the slot and pushed the puck over to the left faceoff circle. Ronning cut through the circle and lifted a wrist shot over Potvin for his first goal since January 4 and 14th of the season. Nashville had a chance to take the lead, but Potvin stacked his pads to deny David Legwand's shot from the top of the crease with just under six minutes to play. Potvin also turned away a hard snap shot by Kjellberg from the bottom of the right circle with 4:27 left.

The Predators sent Dunham to the bench for an extra attacker in the final minute but were unable to sustain pressure. Los Angeles avenged a 6-4 home loss to Nashville on February 1 and moved within four points of Edmonton for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
